The Glebe, set in the heart of the village, is a green open space for dedicated to the respite and recreation of all comers. It is one of two pieces of land that have been so generously donated by Woldingham residents in the last 97 years, the other being Glebe Lands at Long Hill and Madeira Walk. Our benefactors being Alexander Shaw, later 2nd Baron Craigmyle and Mr and Mrs George Burne.
The lands are held in perpetuity for the benefit of the village and its residents by a Charity established in 1934 by Alexander Shaw. To this day the lands are funded by subscriptions from Friends of the Glebe, larger donations and bequests and fundraising for specific enhancements and maintenance.
The Glebe is home to The Children’s Playground, currently undergoing expansion and improvement, Woldingham Lawn Tennis Club, Woldingham Village Cricket Club and Woodlea Primary School (Sports Activities). It is a favourite place for local dog owners as it provides a safe space – please always clear up after your dog.
