Parish Council News Update – June 2024
Letter from the Parish Council Chairman
Dear Villagers,
Coming off the back of a quiet period given the local elections, and after the Annual Parish Meeting, the Parish Council workload has been marginally lighter. Of course, Councillor North organised the D-Day Commemoration, which was incredibly well attended (see article and photos in this magazine). And we have been getting new Councillors up to speed.
Councillor Resignation
Sadly, one long-standing Councillor, Daniel Mann, resigned after the elections. Daniel was thoughtful, insightful and constructive in everything he did. We will miss his contribution to the Parish Council and we thank him for all his work. Daniel was spearheading our environmental policies and project work and we in particular need to fill that expertise gap. At the time of writing, we are advertising to co-opt a Councillor, with an application closing date of 1st July and a view to co-opting in our July meeting. If you are interested or would like to learn more, please contact our Clerk, Karen Newman, at parish.clerk@woldingham.com.
Regular Meetings
As reminder, the Parish Council meet the last Wednesday of every month, except August and December, and the public are always welcome. Our agenda is published in advance and is available on the noticeboard and here on www.woldingham.com
Speed Watch
Speed Watch is operating regularly. Speed Watch has been coordinated by Councillor Foulds and the Speed Watch team leader is Jeremy Wormington. Jeremy’s update for April and May follows.
“We only conducted 8 sessions as a result of school holidays and the unseasonably wet weather, but recorded 138 vehicles exceeding the threshold, which is consistently 17% of vehicles passing through the village, although noticeably higher along Northdown Road where we caught nearly 10 vehicles exceeding 45mph.”
We still need more Speed Watch volunteers
There was a recent posting on the Woldingham Facebook page noting with concern the cars speeding through the village. If you have a few hours a month to help us abate speeding in the village, please email our Clerk, Karen, at parish.clerk@woldingham.com. We need your help. Training takes an hour and you are always paired with someone else, so it is not lonely work!
CCTV
The Parish Council have replaced its ancient CCTV cameras on Church Road. We now have more modern cameras with easy access from mobile phones. We will be giving the police direct access to them as well. We hope never to need them but they are an important deterrent as well as information source if something does happen.
Footpath Cleaning
Surrey County Council has agreed to clean the moss and debris from footpath 40, the footpath leading from Park View Road to the station. We do not have a precise timeframe but it is imminent. Should the footpath crumble during the process, it may need further repairs, which Surrey County Council will undertake.
For Parish Council and for Village news, as well as updates from our MP, please keep an eye on the home page on www.woldingham.com where you will also find a wealth of information on all the village has to offer. And as ever, if you have any suggestions or feedback, please let us know!
All the best,
Chairman Deborah Sherry
