Voting Safely in This Year’s Elections
Voting safely in this year’s elections
from Becky Rush – Surrey County Council
As I write this article on 2 Feb the elections this year are planned to go ahead on 6th May 2021. As a result of the postponed elections from 2020 this will be a bumper year of election, especially in Woldingham where you will have the opportunity to vote for:
– County Council
– District Council
– Parish Council
– Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey
A significant amount of work is being carried out in order to ensure these elections can happen safely. You will be able to take part in these elections in a number of ways, either by voting in a polling station, by post, or by appointing someone who can vote on your behalf, which is known as a proxy vote.
With the upcoming elections and the situation we area in many residents have asked me for information on postal votes so I thought it would be useful to share
If you are thinking about voting by post you can apply now to make sure your application is processed early and your postal vote sent more quickly. Perhaps similarly to other elections around the world
You can apply for a postal vote by printing out the form on the Electoral Commission website:
www.electoralcommission.org.
The deadline to apply for a postal vote for the elections on 6th May 2021 is 5pm on Tuesday 20 April. You must also be registered to vote by midnight on Monday 19th April.
To apply for a postal vote you need to download, print and fill in the postal vote application form. You can apply for a specific election or for a specific time period, or for a permanent postal vote.
Once you have completed the form and made sure you have signed it, you need to send it to the electoral services team at Tandridge District Council:
